Jeffrey D. Fleming is returning to West Deer Supervisors to fill a vacancy in District 1.

A former supervisor is the newest member of West Deer supervisors in District 1.

The supervisors appointed Jeffrey D. Fleming to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Vernon Frey, who left the board because of a change in residence.

“He (Frey) is still in the township, but has moved out of his district,” Supervisors Chairman Beverly Jordan explained.

Frey served on the board of supervisors for seven years and was elected to another four-year term as the District 1 representative last year.

Fleming was elected to two four-year terms on the board, serving from 2009 to 2017, when he decided not to run again. He is a construction project manager and owner of Fleming-Walker Construction.

Three other District 1 residents submitted letters of interest in the vacancy.

They were Jamie Arseneault , Caroline Hollibaugh and Scott A. Woloszyk.

All the candidates were interviewed by the supervisors prior to Wednesday’s regular business meeting.

When Jordan opened the floor for nominations, Supervisor Josh Weigand moved to appoint Hollibaugh. However, none of the other three supervisors seconded the motion and it failed as a result.

Supervisor James Smullin nominated Fleming and that motion was seconded by Jordan. Fleming’s nomination was approved without opposition.

Fleming will serve until December 2025 and must run for election next year to complete the remaining two years of the term.
