Multiple Fox Chapel Area School District parents and guardians received an erroneous automated message that their child was absent from school Wednesday.

Officials posted a message about the error on the district’s website and Facebook page.

Several parents/guardians expressed their frustrations and concerns about the incident.

One called it a “really scary error” and hopes it never happens again. Others said it caused mini heart attacks and caused a lot of anxiety for their children.

It was unclear what caused the problem and how many improper notices were sent.

”We apologize for this technical error, and we will be sending a new robocall and email out to those parents and guardians with children who were absent today,” the district’s post read in part.

Messages left with district officials Wednesday afternoon were not immediately returned.
