Frazer police Sgt. Aaron Scott will be the township’s acting police chief following the death of police Chief Terry Kuhns.

The township supervisors made the appointment Tuesday.

Kuhns, Frazer’s police chief since 2013, died Monday. He was 67.

Scott has been a sergeant in Frazer for about five years, officials said. The township has five full-time officers and one part-time officer, Supervisor and Township Secretary Lori Ziencik said.

“He’s done a fantastic job,” Supervisor Matt Beacom said.

Supervisors held a moment of silence for Kuhns.

“He was one of the best of the best,” Ziencik said.

Scott will oversee the department until a new chief is appointed. Supervisors haven’t set a timeline to when they’d like to have a permanent replacement.

“The way I look at it, if we can find somebody that can come anywhere close to what Chief Kuhns has done over the past years that he’s been here, then I’d put that person in as chief in a heartbeat,” Supervisor William Creevey said.
