A drive-thru sale Saturday in Brackenridge offered motorists a convenient way to score their favorite Girl Scout cookie.

Girl Scout Troop 28807 leader Jessica DePascale said the troop introduced the drive-thru option for purchasing cookies last year because of the pandemic.

The 11-member troop braved snow showers and freezing temps Saturday, selling more than 180 boxes during the two-hour sale. They worked from the parking lot of Trinity United Methodist Church along Freeport Road.

DePascale said the inclement weather likely decreased sales.

“The weather definitely kept some people at home,” DePascale said.

Brackenridge resident Ulisa Holmes said she saw the sale while driving along Freeport Road and decided to stop.

“I was a Girl Scout for five years — had all the badges,” said Holmes, who recalled her days selling cookies. “But delivering the cookies was terrible. This is a better way, a drive-by.”

Sales from the cookies will help finance a three-day trip to a horse-themed ranch outside of Erie.

“Proceeds from the cookie sales cover everything that we do,” DePascale said.

The troop, which has girls in fourth and fifth grade, generally sells enough cookies to raise several thousand dollars a year.

DePascale said the drive-thru sale is here to stay. The troop hosts multiple drive-thru sales in different areas in the Alle-Kiski Valley.

During Saturday’s sale, the most popular cookie was the Thin Mint, followed by a new cookie called Adventurefuls, Depascale said.

The Adventureful features a brownie-inspired cookie with caramel-flavored creme and a dash of sea salt.

Holding homemade signs advertising cookies for sale, three of the scouts dressed Saturday as Girl Scout cookie favorites Tagalong, Thin Mint and Samoa.

Girl Scout Natalie Blasco, 10, said she brought a blanket to the sale and tried to keep warm jumping up and down.

“It’s windy. This is cold,” Blasco said.

Sophia DePascale, 10, has been a Scout for five years and dressed up in a Thin Mint costume.

“I got to see my friends, and customers were excited to get the cookies,” DePascale said.
