Harmar bridge work put off until July

A planned closure of Jacoby Road in Harmar has been postponed until later this summer.
The road originally was expected to close Monday for repairs to the bridge that carries it over Little Deer Creek, but the contractor decided to wait until July 15 to accommodate trout season.
State law prohibits contractors from doing any work in a stream during trout season. The work is being done through the Allegheny County Public Works Department.
“We thought maybe he could do some drainage work early in the contract,” said Rich Connors, with the public works department. “He has elected to just wait until the trout season ends.”
The closure will require a detour utilizing Nixon Road, Route 28, Route 910, and Rich Hill Road.
The road will be closed for 90 days from the start date.
The improvements will include replacing the substructure of the bridge, its foundation and part of the approaching roadway.
