A driver who stopped at a GetGo on Friday night in Harmar and picked up a man who asked for a lift to Verona was taken for a ride at gunpoint, according to Harmar police.

Harmar police Chief Jason Domaratz said as the unidentified driver took the man toward Oakmont, he stopped at a red light after crossing the Hulton Bridge and informed his passenger he was going to drop him off there.

“At that point, the (passenger) pulled a gun and told the driver ‘No, you’ll take me to the GetGo in Verona,’ ” Domaratz said. “Then there was a scuffle, and the guy (with the gun) got out and ran off.”

On his way back to Harmar, the driver called police. There was no word of any injuries.

The gunman was still on the loose as of late Saturday.

Calls to Oakmont police were not immediately returned.
