Harrison woman with 4 kids in car charged with DUI, speeding
State police accused a Harrison woman of being drunk and speeding with four children in her car, including an infant who wasn’t buckled in a baby carrier.
Tiffany Lynn Carter, 36, of Princeton Avenue was charged Dec. 29 with four felony counts of endangering the welfare of children along with three counts of DUI. She also was issued three traffic citations.
Carter was charged by summons in connection with a Nov. 18 traffic stop along Route 28 in Fawn. A preliminary hearing before District Judge Carolyn Bengel is scheduled for Feb. 28.
A trooper wrote in a criminal complaint that he was driving behind a Kia Forte in the passing lane when the car began weaving. The car was clocked on radar going 75 mph in a 55 mph zone, the complaint said.
Carter showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol and was arrested after failing a series of field sobriety tests. She also failed a breathalyzer test, police said.
The trooper said a woman seated in the back of Carter’s Kia was holding a 7-month-old child on her lap. There also was a 1-year-old child buckled in a car seat, a 14-year-old girl sitting in the back and a 16-year-old boy in the front seat, according to the complaint.
Police said Carter agreed to have blood drawn at Allegheny Valley Hospital after her arrest. Investigators said the test showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.10%. A person with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher is considered too drunk to legally drive in Pennsylvania.
