Upper Burrell supervisors will hold a hearing on a proposed Marcellus Shale gas compressor station following their 7 p.m. meeting on Wednesday.
Olympus Energy of Canonsburg wants to install a gas compressor station on undeveloped industrial land owned by Arconic along White Cloud Road.
The compressor station, known as the Rogers compressor, would maintain the pressure and flow of the natural gas from Olympus’ three well sites in the township to deliver to gas markets, according to the energy company.
Olympus has three well pads to tap natural gas in the Marcellus shale rock formation approved by the township and state Department of Environmental Protection in various stages of development.
The township’s planning commission has recommended approval of the project, said Steve Yakopec, Upper Burrell’s solicitor.
Olympus is requesting approval from the township for an unconditional use of the industrial site.
A compressor station is permitted on industrial land, Yakopec said.
Olympus Energy did not immediately respond to provide comment on the details of the compressor station.
