An Oakmont man was acquitted by a jury this week of rape and sexual assault charges involving a teenage girl.
Jurors spent about four hours deliberating Wednesday in the case against Jeffrey Thomas McMeekin, 63, according to a court order.
He was found not guilty of 21 counts including rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and aggravated indecent assault.
McMeekin was arrested in mid-2022 by Allegheny Township police. The girl told police she was 17 and 18 years old when McMeekin sexually assaulted her multiple times in November and December 2021.
Testimony in the case began Monday. The accuser testified on Tuesday.
Defense attorney Mike DeRiso said the outcome showed the alleged assaults were instead consensual sexual activity.
“It’s unfortunate that a case like that had to go to trial because there were so many indicators that were consistent with consent and they were brought out in the trial,” he said. “I certainly don’t condone those types of relationships, however there’s a difference between consensual and rape.”
