The Kinloch fire department’s annual Fireman’s Carnival kicked off Monday and will run through Saturday in the Burrell Plaza parking lot.

The carnival is open from 6 to 10 p.m, and includes about a dozen amusement rides.

Ride-all-night wrist bands can be purchased for $20. The festival also features a dunk dank and other games for adults and children.

“This is awesome,” said JoRene Lana, of Lower Burrell on Monday night.

“Even with it being so hot, it’s still nice. There are rides for everybody and plenty of good food.”

Lower Burrell Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 is cooking up some carnival favorites, including pizza, hot sausage, hamburgers, roast beef, fresh-cut French fries, funnel cakes and specialty Oreo cookie funnel cakes.

The carnival attracted good crowds so far, said Kinloch Fire Chief Ted Hereda.

As the week goes on, he thinks the heat could be a “bit of a factor” but he still expects a good turnout.

Residents seem to like the traditional carnival that has been running for at least nine years, Hereda said.

The carnival serves as one of the fire department’s biggest fundraising events.

“The community looks forward to it every year,” Hereda said. “We are very appreciative of the community support.”

Proceeds will help pay for the fire department’s operations, equipment and a growing expense for fuel for the trucks, he said.

The carnival is being held in the parking lot of Burrell Plaza, 3100 Leechburg Road in Lower Burrell.
