Wayne Lawrence Birch Jr., a Kiski Township man accused of sexually assaulting a minor, has been acquitted.
A jury rendered the not guilty verdict Oct. 9, ending nearly two years of proceedings for Birch, 55.
In December 2022, he was charged with one felony count each of aggravated indecent assault of a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child under the age of 13, aggravated indecent assault without consent, indecent assault of a person under 13, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children. He also was charged with misdemeanor counts of corruption of minors and indecent assault without consent.
The accusations stemmed from a state ChildLine notification that was investigated by a caseworker from Armstrong County Children and Youth Services, according to the criminal complaint. Township police said they also conducted a forensic interview with the child.
“This was a horrendous two-year process for this man,” said Domenic Pietropaolo, the attorney representing Birch. “He’s just happy to be able to get a new shot at things.”
