Kiski Township police arrested a couple after discovering their two children “were living in squalor.”

Arrested were Edward Reed Jr., 24, and Kayla Vojtilla, 22, of Brownstown Road.

Police said they went to their home Tuesday, April 27 for an “unrelated” matter. They discovered Reed and Vojtilla’s children, a 3-year-old boy and a 4-month-old girl.

According to police, there were cockroaches and fleas in the area where the children slept.

The home had no working sewage system, and there was garbage strewn throughout the residence — including discarded diapers on the floor, spoiled food in the refrigerator and dirty dishes collecting insects in the sink.

The parents were arrested for endangering the welfare of children and arraigned before District Judge James Andring. Both were released on a $10,000 unsecured bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 19.

Armstrong County Children and Youth Services placed both children with a family member, according to police.
