Lower Burrell man convicted of using neighbor's credit cards sentenced to probation in federal case
A Lower Burrell man will serve three years on probation after being convicted in federal court of fraudulent use of a neighbor’s credit cards.
Senior U.S. District Judge David Stewart Cercone imposed the sentence Thursday on Jonathan Fry, 44, acting U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti announced Tuesday.
Fry pleaded guilty in September to a charge of fraudulently using credit cards that were issued to another person.
According to information presented to the court, from November 2018 to November 2019, Fry fraudulently used credit cards in the victim’s name and the victim’s Social Security number and birth date to make purchases.
After opening accounts and applying for credit cards in the victim’s name without her authorization, Fry used the credit cards to purchase multiple items, making minimum payments toward the balances so he could continue to use them, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
He charged tens of thousands of dollars worth of purchases, including a gun worth more than $1,000.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service conducted the investigation that led to Fry’s prosecution.
