A Michigan man who fled from Vandergrift police upon being found asleep behind the wheel after wrecking into a parked vehicle will spend the next year on probation.
Stanley Francis Molette, 37, entered a general plea Tuesday to six counts against him, including resisting arrest and driving under the influence. In addition to the probation term, he was sentenced to 48 hours to six months at the Westmoreland County Prison and paroled.
Molette was charged in connection with the Oct. 16, 2022 crash. Authorities said when he woke after the 3 p.m. collision on Longfellow Street, Molette nearly drove into a police cruiser. An officer was able to jump into the front seat of the vehicle to get control and Molette was Tasered twice.
He told Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio on Tuesday that he has been in a treatment program in Michigan.
“Every barrier that I have they work with,” Molette said.
Aggravated assault charges were dismissed by prosecutors. He was credited with about 10 days in the Westmoreland County Prison.
