Traffic restrictions on Tarentum Bridge

Traffic will be restricted on the Tarentum Bridge for ramp inspections on Thursday, PennDOT announced.

There will be traffic shifts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the ramps from eastbound Route 366 to First Avenue, and the First Avenue ramp to westbound Route 366.

All ramps will remain open. Crews from Michael Baker International will be doing the work.

Reward offered in burning of McKeesport police cars

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering a $5,000 reward for information into what officials say is an act of arson targeting the McKeesport Police Department.

Four McKeesport police cars were set on fire, three and a half hours before dawn Wednesday in what Mayor Michael Cherepko called “an attack on police,” TribLive news partner WTAE reported.

Anyone with information is asked to call McKeesport Police at 412-675-5015.

Man shot, killed in Homewood identified

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner has released the name of a man fatally shot in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood Aug. 10.

Soner Yilmaz, 34, was found dead on the sidewalk in the 7400 block of Idlewild Street just after 3:30 a.m. that day. He had been shot in the head, police said.

Pittsburgh cooling centers remain open

With temperatures expected to remain in the 90s, CitiParks announced that its six Healthy Active Living Centers will remain open as cooling centers today and Friday.

The centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The centers are in Beechview, 1555 Broadway Ave.; Brighton Heights, 3515 McClure Ave.; Greenfield, 745 Greenfield Ave.; Homewood, 7321 Frankstown Road; Sheraden, 720 Sheraden Ave.; and South Side, 12th and Bingham Streets.
