Plum family safe after early morning fire
Emergency services reported no injuries after tackling a fire early Tuesday morning.
According to a social media post from Penn Hills Volunteer Fire Co. No. 7, a total of 11 units were alerted to a house fire on Koomatuck Drive a little before 2 a.m. Plum Police arrived on scene to see smoke and flames coming from the back of the house, the post said.
All occupants were out of the house.
Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
Man in custody after SWAT situation in McDonald
A man was taken into custody Monday night following a SWAT situation in McDonald.
Allegheny County Police said preliminary information shows the situation began a little after 7:30 p.m. when local units were called to the scene. SWAT was notified of a man firing shots at police in the 300 block of Fairmont Street a little before 10 p.m.
Police said responding officers encountered the man, who yelled obscenities, then went back into the home and came back out firing multiple rounds. Police vehicles and other vehicles were struck by the gunfire, but no one was hurt.
The man then barricaded himself inside the home before surrendering at 11:10 p.m., police said.
Police said the district attorney’s office will determine appropriate charges.
No injuries after explosion in Ellwood City
An explosion in Ellwood City left a building significantly damaged Tuesday morning.
According to TribLive news partner WTAE, the blast occurred at a building on the 600 block of Mount Vernon Drive. There were no initial reports of injuries.
Columbia Gas was called to the scene as were Ellwood City police and the Pennsylvania state police fire marshal.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was also contacted about the incident.
Local officials ask that people stay clear of the area, and they’ll be notified when the roads are reopened.
