A garage near Aluminum City Terrace in New Kensington was destroyed by fire Tuesday morning.

New Kensington Fire Chief Ed Saliba Jr said crews were dispatched to 870 E. Hill Drive at 11:25 a.m. for reports of a vehicle on fire in a garage.

“The first firefighter was here within about 2 minutes,” Saliba said. “He gave the update the garage was fully involved.”

He estimated the garage’s size to be about 60 feet by 30 feet.

A man inside the garage working on a car was able to escape, Saliba said.

It’s unclear how the fire may have started. Crews were still on scene at noon.

Responding agencies included New Kensington, Arnold, Lower Burrell, Allegheny Township, Tarentum and Plum.

Smoke from the fire could be seen from as far away as the Natrona Heights section of Harrison.
