Tarentum residents who live on Highland Avenue will be getting a change of address of sorts.

The road technically is recorded with Allegheny County as Highland Street — not Highland Avenue.

Council voted on Tuesday to update borough-issued signs to match the county’s records and alleviate any confusion for emergency services personnel.

“State, borough and 911 records confirm it is (Highland) Street,” Manager Dwight Boddorf said. “Allegheny County brought the discrepancy to our attention.”

It appears the issue has existed since the last set of street signs was installed, Boddorf said.

The road sits off Freeport Road in the neighborhood behind Duster’s Funeral Home.

Letters will be sent to residents to inform them of the change, but they won’t need to take any action on their end, Boddorf said.
