People arrive for a job fair.

CareerLink Alle-Kiski will hold a job fair Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its New Kensington office, 1150 Fifth Ave.

Registration is not required.

A dozen local companies will be recruiting at the event, said Phil Grove, account representative for CareerLink in New Kensington, which includes portions of Allegheny, Westmoreland and Butler counties.

It’s a great time to look for a job, Grove said.

Although the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Tuesday that the number of job openings has decreased nationally, there are still more jobs than there are workers in the Alle-Kiski Valley, he said.

“Local employers have modified their operations to match a smaller pool of motivated and engaged workers,” Grove said. “This has allowed these companies to remain profitable although they are serving fewer clients and being more selective in adding new business.”

Job seekers committed to showing up for work with a positive attitude can choose from a variety of employment openings, according to Grove.

“Employers in the AK Valley also have shown they are willing to reward those individuals with better pay and promotions,” Grove said.

Local companies on site for the job fair include Braeburn Alloy Steel, Platinum Ridge Center for Rehabilitation & Healing, the U.S. Census Bureau, 7-11, Smithfield Foods, Swank Construction, Trademark Threads, Staffmark, Quality Machined Products, Filterbuy and Presbyterian Senior Care.

Applicants are encouraged to bring a resume and two forms of identification. More information can be found by visiting CareerLink’s website or calling 724-334-8600.
