A New Kensington man is facing felony aggravated assault charges after, police say, he hit one woman with a flashlight and put a knife to the neck of another.

City police filed charges Sunday against Samuel Nathan Brown, 54. Officers responded to the incident in the 500 block of Fourth Avenue shortly before 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Brown had not been arraigned as of Tuesday, according to court records. He fled the residence before officers arrived, and they were unable to find him.

One woman said she confronted Brown about him threatening a relative, who is the second alleged victim, and that woman’s children.

The woman told officers that Brown began hitting her with a flashlight after the argument. Police said her lip was swollen and bleeding.

The second alleged victim said Brown was threatening her children, both juveniles. She claimed Brown wanted to kill them.

The woman said Brown began choking her and put a knife to her neck, according to a criminal complaint. Officers reported seeing fresh marks on her neck consistent with strangulation.

In addition to two counts of felony aggravated assault, police charged Brown with felony strangulation and misdemeanor offenses of simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment.
