New Kensington police say suspect wanted on 2 warrants arrested after accosting man at his home

New Kensington police filed drug charges against a man who was wanted on multiple arrest warrants after someone at his apartment called 911 to report that he was being accosted.

Daevar Lamont Stevens, 24, of the 1600 block of Woodmont Avenue in Arnold was charged with a count of felony possession of a controlled substance along with two misdemeanor counts of drug possession and counts of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Stevens was being detained in the Westmoreland County jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond, according to court records.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled before District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr. on Thursday, July 6.

Stevens was arrested June 23 after police responded to a call from his home from a man who said he was being accosted by Stevens, according to a criminal complaint.

Stevens was gone by the time police arrived, but an officer found him walking near the intersection of Victoria Avenue and North Street and took him into custody.

Police said Stevens had a baggie of marijuana in one pocket, a marijuana “roach” in the other and was carrying a bag with five Suboxone strips, including one that was partially torn.

The strips, which require a prescription, are used to treat people suffering from opioid addiction but can be abused if taken improperly.

Stevens did not have a prescription for the strips, police said.

Police said he was having difficulty remaining still and that he accosted three officers while they were taking him to jail, the complaint said.

While being booked at the New Kensington police station Stevens handed over a partially used stamp bag with an unknown white substance inside that was hidden in his underwear, police said.

A copper pipe with crack cocaine residue also was found while police were searching his belongings, the complaint said.

On March 12, New Kensington police charged Stevens with three misdemeanor drug counts. A warrant was issued after he failed to show up for a preliminary hearing on the charges, court records show.

New Kensington police also charged Stevens with four misdemeanor counts of drug possession on March 27.

In both cases, the summons the court mailed to Stevens were returned as undeliverable, according to court records.

Preliminary hearings on the two cases filed in March also are scheduled for Thursday, July 6 before Pallone.
