Excitement is in the air as Leechburg leaders and community members prepare to welcome the new year and the borough’s 175th anniversary.

To kick off the year of celebrations, the Leechburg Museum and the Leechburg Area Community Association are teaming up to host a New Year’s Eve party at the Marconi Club, a social hall that’s been a staple of the community since 1911.

Dan Logero, club secretary and treasurer, said it has worked with both organizations several times and the club’s board decided to donate the hall for the event.

Not only will the celebration be the opening act, Logero said, it also serves as a unique fundraiser for the borough’s week of celebration in June.

“June 8 through the 14th, something is happening every day of the week,” said Mayor Doreen Smeal, the point person for the event. “The week will be finished with a parade and drone show.”

For a $20 ticket, New Year’s Eve attendees will enjoy a midnight champagne toast, a DJ, and hot dogs, sauerkraut and pulled pork donated by local barbecue connoisseur Joe Felschow, Smeal said.

With 150 tickets available, the groups are aiming to start strong with their money-raising efforts.

“Every 25 years, Leechburg has a celebration,” Smeal said. “We’re very excited to have one this year. We’re trying to maintain the same level of excellence as we’ve seen in the past, and we’re hoping this year’s celebration is as successful as it has been in the past.”

Tickets can be purchased at the Leechburg Public Library.
