Tom Powers, O’Hara Township historian, shows off educational signs in O’Hara Community Park after they were erected in August 2021. The signs provide a timeline of the history of the township. The signs will be dedicated Saturday, June 11 at 11 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

A dedication ceremony more than a year in the making is set to take place Saturday in O’Hara.

The township plans to dedicate its historical markers at 11 a.m. at the gazebo at O’Hara Township Community Park along Fox Chapel Road.

Six permanent signs measuring 4-feet by 3-feet have been installed around the park’s walking trail.

They take readers on a journey through the history of the township starting from the entrance to the sand volleyball pit.

The markers were erected in August 2021. However, the pandemic shuttered any formal dedication ceremony.

That will change this weekend, township Manager Julie Jakubec said Monday.

“We’re excited for being able to interact with the public at another township event,” she said. “With covid a lot of us postponed a lot of things, and it’s nice to get back to interacting with our residents.”

The celebration continues after the ceremony with a pop-up Touch a Truck event at the park through 1 p.m.

It will feature police and various public works vehicles. Equipment includes trucks, cars, excavators and more.

Crews will be on hand to answer any questions and show families how things work.

“It’s going to be a great time for them to showcase their excellent skill sets and show people what other things we do,” Jakubec said.

Light refreshments will be provided. More information about both events is available on the township’s website, ohara.pa.us.
