PennDOT is considering changing the T-intersection at Route 356 and La Belle Vue Road in Allegheny Township into a roundabout.

The project is a few years off, but PennDOT is inviting the public to comment starting next week.

In addition to creating a roundabout at the intersection, the project also calls for replacing an existing culvert at Pine Run that carries Route 356 over the small waterway.

The public is invited to participate in a virtual plans display, which will include project information, a presentation and a location map. People will be able to access it on PennDOT’s website at www.PennDOT.gov/District12 under the Public Meetings/Studies link. A comment form will also be available for feedback and questions about the project.

The plans will be available for review online for two weeks, from Monday, Sept. 7 through Friday, Sept. 18.

Joshua Zakovitch, the PennDOT project manager, said the roundabout would be an improvement.

“It will help with the flow of traffic and should be a safer area to travel,” he said.

Zakovitch said construction on the project is tentatively scheduled to start in 2022.

Route 356 would be closed in both directions during construction. The detour would use Hyde Park Road and Routes 56 and 66.
