Plum awards road paving contract, seeking slide repair bids
Plum plans to resurface seven roads and six alleys in the borough this year, while also repairing a slide on another.
Council on Monday accepted a bid of just over $680,000 from Tresco for the resurfacing work covering about 4 miles of road. Councilwoman Vicky Roessler was absent.
The company had submitted the lowest of 10 bids, according to Borough Manager David Soboslay.
Roads that will be paved are McAllister Drive, from Sardis Road to its end; Ridgemead Fields Drive, from Route 909 to its end; Shady Avenue, from Short Street to its end; Center-New Texas Road from New Texas Road to McJunkin Road; School Road, from Center-New Texas to Old Leechburg Road; Edenburg Drive, from Old Leechburg Road to Aberdeen Drive; and Aberdeen Drive, from Edenburg Drive to its end.
The borough had considered resurfacing all of Center-New Texas Road, but chose not to do so because of two major developments on that road — Plum School District’s plans for renovations and an addition to O’Block Elementary School, and Jubilee International Ministry’s construction of a second church across from the school, Soboslay said.
The alleys that will be worked on are Pine Alley, from Apple Avenue to its end; Walnut Alley, from Walnut Street to Walnut Street; Second Alley, from Renton Avenue to its end; Third Alley, from Renton Avenue to Pine Street; Fourth Alley, from Renton Avenue to Apple Avenue; and Fifth Alley, from Renton Road to Plum Street.
The work will begin sometime after Aug. 1, Soboslay said.
Barnes Road slide repair
Council approved seeking contract bids for the Barnes Road slide repair project. They are due by 10 a.m. March 20.
The project will include excavation and installation of rock-filled baskets to repair the slide along with the installation of stormwater facilities and restoring the roadway.
A section of Barnes Road, between Milltown and Elicker roads, has been limited to a single, alternating lane since early December.
While the road is open, the borough has advised residents to use other roads in the area until it is fixed.
Bidding documents are available from borough consultant KU Resources.
Soboslay said the borough expects to award a contract in April.
