Plum officials plan to spend a little less than $900,000 to repair 20 streets.

Council recently awarded this year’s paving project to Derry Construction. Derry was the lowest of nine bidders at about $892,300.

The borough allocated about $775,700 in state liquid fuels tax money for street reconstruction this year. The rest is expected to come from the general fund.

Construction is expected to begin in either mid-August or early September.

Road repairs are expected to take a few months.

Streets selected are based on condition of the road, safety and other factors.

Borough Manager Michael Thomas, engineers at R.F. Mital & Associates and other public works officials are involved in an annual road analysis process.

“We do have a multiple-year plan for repaving, and we are right on schedule with our paving for all of our roads,” Thomas said. “We know multiple years in advance what year we’ll pave which streets. The only reason the paving plan would need to be modified any given year based on certain circumstances.”

He said the borough also coordinates with local water authorities and utilities to ensure roads are not paved right before one of the other entity’s projects.

Road repairs scheduled for this year include:

• Harbor View Drive, from Tivoli Road to Tahoe Drive.

• Arcardia Park Road, from Harborview Drive to its end.

• Tivoli Road, from Harborview Drive to Surfside Drive.
