The Easter Bunny waves to children in Plum’s “Drive-Thru Eggstravaganza” at the borough’s public works facility.

Plum officials are gearing up for the borough’s annual Easter Eggstravaganza.

It will take place April 16 in drive-thru fashion for the third straight year at the public works building, 2001 Old Mine Road.

The free event is for borough residents only and limited to the first 700 children who register.

Registration is available online through plumboro.com.

Families can go online and select a 10-minute time slot, and enter their names, addresses and indicate how many children will participate. A confirmation email will be sent.

The event will take place rain or shine.

Event coordinator Mona Costanza said the borough went from the traditional egg hunt to drive-through because of the pandemic, and organizers decided to err on the side of caution this year despite many communities and school districts relaxing their covid restrictions.

“I am egg-cited,” Costanza said about the event. “It’s a great event. This is one of my favorite events to put together. There’s a lot of moving parts to it, coordinating stuffers of the eggs, stuffers of the bags. But we get it done, and it’s a great morning.”

Directional signs will be posted, and participants are to remain in their cars so that volunteers can distribute treat bags, containing about a dozen plastic eggs and a coloring book, through the windows.

Many volunteers have returned to make things go smoothly.

The Easter Bunny will be on hand to greet families and help with treat bags.

“This works very well,” Costanza said. “You can get the people through quickly. We’ve put 30 cars in a 10-minute window, and we have a few minutes in between to clear traffic out so there’s never a backup. Parents don’t have to wait but a couple minutes to get through.”

More than 400 children have been registered so far.

Costanza said she believes they will reach the 700 mark by the day of the event.

Plum Community Center volunteers spent a couple days in March stuffing about 8,400 eggs with candy and treats in preparation.

“The seniors who stuffed them were very happy that they were doing something for young families in Plum,” said Karen Hochberg, the center’s executive director. “We’re always looking to partner with the borough on events. We often pay to help be a sponsor of events because we’re grateful for the borough’s support. We look for ways to help out.”

Hochberg said people also got to catch up with old friends while working on the eggs, and the center hopes to be involved again next year.

Pappy’s Kettle Corn will be set up at the Renton Road entrance and have a special Easter-themed multicolored popcorn.

The Plum Rotary Club will be collecting monetary donations for Brother’s Brother to help the people of Ukraine. The Rotary will match all donations collected. The goal is to raise at least $1,000.

Eggstravaganza sponsors include State Farm, Rotary International, Soxman Funeral Home and the Plum Chamber of Commerce.
