Police: Braddock man shot 3 times outside an Arnold high-rise; suspect caught after foot chase
A Braddock man was hospitalized Tuesday night after being shot three times in Arnold, according to Arnold Police Chief Eric Doutt.
The 20-year-old man, who was not identified by name, was outside Arnold Manor along the 1600 block of Horne Boulevard when someone opened fire around 7:15 p.m., according to the chief.
Doutt said the victim was struck in the abdomen, right arm and again on his right side.
He was transported by New Kensington Ambulance Service to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. His condition was unavailable.
Officers from New Kensington, Upper Burrell, and Lower Burrell as well as the state Attorney General’s Office and Westmoreland County detectives responded to the scene.
Police were able to take a man into custody in connection with the incident.
The chief said he was caught after a brief foot chase. Officers recovered a firearm in the suspect’s backpack.
Doutt said the shooting is still under investigation and declined to release information about the man being held Tuesday night.
A handful of people gathered around the building outside the police tape to observe the scene. They declined to speak to the media.
An email to the Westmoreland County Housing Authority, which owns and operates the low-income high-rise, was not immediately returned.
