New Kensington and Westmoreland County police continue to investigate after a man was shot dead early Saturday morning, a spokeswoman for the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office said.

County detectives were called to assist New Kensington police outside the Elks Lodge on Third Avenue around 3:30 a.m., said Melanie Jones, spokeswoman for District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli.

The man, about 46 years old, according to Jones, died from a gunshot wound and the incident is being investigated as a homicide.

Later Saturday morning, police with dogs followed a blood trail from behind the Elks to near the Pioneer Apartments on 10th Street, but no one was found, according to police on scene.

No arrests had been made.

New Kensington police referred questions to the district attorney’s office.

Jones said the investigation will include reviewing video from cameras in the area.
