Principals: 2 kids brought 6 small knives to Kiski Area Intermediate School; no threats made

Two Kiski Area Intermediate School students brought six small knives to school with them “in order to show them off to one another” on Wednesday afternoon, according to a statement released by the school’s principals.

“The investigation, thus far, has not uncovered any threat — either in person or through social media,” said the statement, posted on the district’s website. “The investigation reveals that these students brought the knives to school to show them off to one another following a conversation the evening before regarding hunting. However, the district is still actively investigating this incident.”

Three knives, about 1½ to 3 inches long, were found on one student, who said another student also had knives Wednesday, according to the statement released by Principal Michael Cardamone and Assistant Principal John Cortazzo. The second student had two knives and a multitool with a blade of similar size, the statement said.

The school was notified that a student had the knives through Safe2Say Something, a helpline where students can anonymously report incidents such as bullying or threats.

The school planned to have an increased police presence Thursday, the statement said. Parents were asked to review their child’s belongings and talk with them about being mindful of what they are taking to school.

“Our goal is for everyone to work together to maintain a safe school environment,” the statement said.
