Water main issues that shut down Linden Street in Vandergrift continue, but help is on the way.

The street, next to Davis Field, is scheduled to undergo repairs next week, Vandergrift Councilwoman Christine Wilson said.

A large portion of the street has remained closed for about five weeks.

Wilson said a water main break, repaired within hours during the last week of August, resulted in the closure.

Wilson said the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County is responsible for paying for and completing the project.

A representative of MAWC could not be reached for comment.

MAWC has hired Daniels Excavating of Greensburg to make the repairs. The company’s Adam Daniels said the project will take about two weeks if weather conditions are favorable. He declined to provide the project’s cost.

Crews will work weekdays during daylight hours.

The repaired water line remains fully operational, and no borough residents’ water service is affected, Wilson said.

Wilson said the new section of the street will be paved with concrete.

“Some of that old ‘common’ red brick is almost 100 years old,” Wilson said.

The bricks are hard to find and become slippery during the winter so council made the decision to pave the repaired section of the road with concrete.
