Scarlett Lewis, the Sandy Hook mom who founded a social emotional learning program, has canceled a speech scheduled for Monday night at Burrell High School because she is ill, according to Burrell Superintendent Shannon Wagner.

Lewis’ presentation will be rescheduled, according to Wagner.

Burrell said they opened up Lewis’ speech to the general public because they felt many of the concepts in her program could apply to anyone.

The Choose Love program is based on the power of children and adults to “learn to choose a loving thought over an angry one,” according to Lewis on her “Jesse Lewis Choose Love” website.

Lewis gave a speech earlier this year to Burrell district educators, law enforcement and students.

Lewis’ son Jesse was one of 26 people killed at the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on Dec. 14, 2012.
