The sidewalk on the New Kensington Bridge will be closed starting Monday through mid-November.

A shuttle will be available while the sidewalk on the New Kensington Bridge is closed for the next four months.

The sidewalk on the bridge spanning the Allegheny River between New Kensington and East Deer is scheduled to close at 7 a.m. Monday and remain closed through mid-November, PennDOT announced Thursday.

The long-term closure will allow crews to do work including painting the bridge, installing fencing and repairing the sidewalk.

Elite Coach Transportation will provide a temporary shuttle while the sidewalk is closed. It will operate from 7 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 6 p.m. every day at Route 56 and Second Avenue and Freeport Road and the bridge.

Pickup times should not exceed 20-minute cycles, PennDOT said. The shuttle will be marked as “New Kensington Bridge Construction Pedestrian Shuttle Service.”

The $24.59 million New Kensington Bridge preservation project began in March 2023 and is expected to be finished later this year.
