Part of Saxonburg Boulevard in West Deer is reduced to a single lane after a large sinkhole opened between Russellton-Dorseyville Road and McClure Road.

West Deer police posted on Facebook Monday morning cautioning motorists to be careful driving on Saxonburg Boulevard in that area. The sinkhole is in the northbound lane.

PennDOT spokesperson Steve Cowan said traffic is being controlled by stop signs. He said geotech personnel will evaluate the situation as soon as this week to make recommendations on what work will be needed to remediate the issue.

“From there, we will have to make determinations on who will do the work and when it can be accomplished,” he said.

Cowan said information is preliminary at the moment because they don’t yet have full scope of the situation.

The road will remain reduced to a single lane until the issue is resolved.
