Construction continues on a Taco Bell in Allegheny Township, expected to open this month at intersection of Hyde Park Road at Route 56.

Kevin Kupniewsk, senior director of operations for Charter Foods/Taco Bell, KFC, Long John Silvers and Pizza Hut, confirmed this week that the project is on schedule. An opening event will likely occur the week of March 14.

Charter Foods is based in Morristown, Tenn. The contractor is PBI Construction of Gibsonia.

Township Manager Greg Primm said Friday the township hasn’t received new permit applications and had not received a recent update or opening date.

Township officials approved the project in August, with a projected construction schedule of four to six months.

The restaurant will offer dine-in and drive-thru service.

Construction crews hung signs on the building last week. In January, hiring flyers were advertised online for the location, with the address of 500 Hyde Park Road.

Allegheny Township Supervisor Jamie Morabito said he hopes the restaurant is the first of many.

The fast food restaurant is going into Allegheny Plaza, an almost empty venue. Big Lots is the only business occupying the strip mall section of the plaza.

“The opening of Taco Bell will be a great start to show other businesses we want to fill our plazas and that our community will support and patronize the new businesses,” Morabito said.
