Tarentum Council has a vacancy to fill but it won’t be clear until Tuesday who can apply for the position.

Council President Scott Dadowski won two seats in the November election, his 2nd Ward term and the at-large position.

He declined to say which seat he will accept until Tuesday’s agenda meeting.

“I will submit a letter of resignation for one of the council seats,” Dadowski said. “When council accepts it, that will trigger the 30-day time frame to advertise, interview and select a new council person.”

Council expects to name a new member at its Feb. 6 meeting.

Dadowski, a Democrat, ran unopposed for his ward seat but faced a challenge for the at-large position from newcomer Maggie Smith, a Republican.

He won by a thin margin of 319 to 311 votes.

Smith also ran unopposed for a 3rd Ward seat so she accepted that seat.

Depending on which seat Dadowski accepts Tuesday, the borough will be seeking applicants from either the 2nd Ward or from across the borough. The open position is a four-year term.

During the reorganization meeting last week, Dadowski was elected council president and Lou Ann Homa was elected vice president. Both are two-year terms.
