A Tarentum man accused of slapping a borough police officer in 2023 was found not guilty of charges of aggravated assault, a felony, and stalking and terroristic threats, both misdemeanors.
Bryaunt Williams, 40, instead was found guilty of two summary counts of disorderly conduct at a trial in Allegheny County. He was sentenced to time served.
The charges stemmed from a May 2023 incident in which Williams was accused of waiting near the Tarentum police station for an officer to end his shift at midnight and then approaching the officer to confront him about an incident at his West Eighth Avenue home the previous night, according to a criminal complaint filed in the case.
Williams was accused of slapping the officer because he thought the officer had reported his children to the Allegheny County Office of Children, Youth and Families, the complaint said.
The officer pushed Williams away and told him he didn’t know what he was talking about, court records show.
Police said Williams accused another Tarentum police officer of causing him trauma by putting a gun to his head.
Williams had waived his right to a preliminary hearing before District Judge Carolyn Bengel, who ordered him to stand trial.
