A Tarentum man was ordered to stand trial on charges that he beat a woman and repeatedly burned her while they were arguing.
Brian Scott Schuller, 51, of West Seventh Avenue was charged with a felony count of aggravated assault and counts of simple assault and unlawful restraint.
Schuller has been detained in the Allegheny County Jail since his arrest March 7 after a judge ruled during his arraignment that he is a danger to the victim and the community, according to court records.
District Judge Carolyn Bengel ordered Schuller to stand trial following a March 9 preliminary hearing. Formal arraignment in Allegheny County Court is scheduled for May 1.
Police wrote in a criminal complaint that a woman came into the Tarentum police station shortly before 10:30 p.m. March 6. She reported she was at Schuller’s house when he became angry and punched her three times in the face and then stood at the front door and refused to let her leave.
The woman told police Schuller pushed her into a TV, which broke, when she started screaming to get the attention of neighbors.
She said Schuller then allowed her to leave but threw her out the door and down a flight of steps as she left, the complaint said.
Police said the woman reported that Schuller also assaulted her Feb. 17 and she suffered injuries that required medical treatment.
The woman said Schuller burned her left hand with a hot cast iron skillet and placed her right hand on a stove burner, according to the complaint.
She told police the burn marks on her left ankle were from a cigarette.
Police noted in the complaint that they saw scabbed burn marks on the woman’s hands and ankle.
The woman gave investigators copies of the records from a Feb. 19 visit to a MedExpress, where she was treated for burns and a concussion, the complaint said.
