Tarentum placed a borough employee on paid leave following an alleged physical altercation, borough Manager Michael Nestico confirmed Wednesday.

The incident happened at the borough’s public works garage on July 19, Nestico said.

Council met in an executive session closed to the public on July 22 to review details of the incident, Nestico said. The borough is now conducting a personnel investigation of the incident.

The borough has not identified the employee or provided details of the alleged altercation.

“Violence in the workplace is something that every employer should take very seriously,” Nestico said. “Each employee of the borough is entitled to a violence-free workplace and we want to ensure that goal is met within the borough.

“We must also ensure that the rights of each employee are preserved and that an appropriate investigation is conducted.”
