Mt. St. Peter Parish to celebrate 43nd annual Festa Italiana

The 43nd annual Mt. St. Peter Parish Festa Italiana will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and after the 4 p.m. Saturday Mass till 9 p.m. on the parish grounds, 100 Freeport Road, New Kensington.

Entertainment will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each evening. VZH&M will perform on Friday and the 56 East Band on Saturday.

There will be children’s games, bingo, raffles and other games of chance for those 21 and over. Food choices include a variety of Italian food specialties, desserts and pastries. Parking and bus transportation will be available from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, both from the Valley High School parking lot. Admission is free. Everyone is welcome.

Hold the Phone! Benefit concert scheduled Aug. 9 to aid Tarentum PD

Kaley’s Kops, 423 Productions and No Offseason Entertainment will host a benefit concert featuring Brian Kelley, formerly of the group Florida Georgia Line, at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at No Offseason Sports Complex, 904 Little Deer Creek Valley Road, West Deer.

The date was listed incorrectly in the July 27 Stroller column. Gates open at 5 p.m. Proceeds will be donated to the Tarentum Police Department to purchase, train and put a K9 unit into service. Additional proceeds will be used for bulletproof vests and other needs of the department, all in honor of fallen officers.

Children welcome at Harrison safety event

A children’s safety event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Citizens Hose/Fire/EMS, 965 Burtner Road, Natrona Heights, Harrison.

There will be home safety demonstrations, a bike and helmet giveaway, car seat checks, children’s fingerprinting, touch-a-truck and school supply giveaways.

Sponsors include Harrison and Tarentum police departments, Citizens Hose Fire/Rescue/EMS, Hilltop Hose Company No. 3, Harrison Hills VFC No. 4, UPMC Childrens Hospital, American Red Cross, the Salvation Army of Allegheny Valley and State Rep. Mandy Steele.

• Isabel Ramos of Vandergrift received the $1,500 Katherine M. McKenna scholarship from the Greensburg Garden Center. The daughter of Jorge and Gretchen Ramos, she is studying environmental engineering and management at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, and plans to work in the field of water restoration.

Aug. 14: Our Lady, Queen of Peace and St. James parishes will sponsor a bus trip to Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh. The bus will leave at 9 a.m. from the St. James Church parking lot in Apollo. Saturday: Leechburg Area Pool will host a Taylor Swift swim party from 7 to 10:30 p.m. at the pool, Park Road. The Eras Tour concert film will play on an outdoor screen. Bring bracelets to trade. Cost: members, free; non-members, $3 each.

Harrison

Monday through Friday: The Natrona Playground Summer Camp for children will serve a free lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays at the playground, 10 River Ave. Free classes will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Programs this week are: today, a petting zoo with farm animals; and Thursday, Earthworks Dig-in with Mad Science.

Friday: Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary will sponsor a Cookies & Candy by Christy sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until sold out in the main lobby of Allegheny Valley Hospital, 1301 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights. Items will include homemade and hand-packaged cookies and chocolates. Cash or checks accepted. Proceeds will benefit auxiliary projects for the hospital.

Aug. 13: Allegheny-Kiski Health Foundation will offer a free class, “Pet First Aid for Animal Lovers,” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the foundation office, 1 Acee Drive. Veterinarian Dr. Betsy Kennon will discuss common ailments, CPR for dogs and cats, treating and bandaging wounds to legs and paws, treating hot spots and bee stings and what to do if a pet swallows something bad.
