Christmas tree recycling locations announced

Several locations in the area will offer Christmas tree recycling.

They include:

• Allegheny Township: maintenance building, 1169 School Road, open drop-off available any time through Jan. 31. Non-residents welcome.

• Boyce Park, Plum: 8 a.m. to dusk through Jan. 19 at the soccer fields parking lot.

• Deer Lakes Park, West Deer: 8 a.m. to dusk through Jan. 19 in the Veterans Shelter parking lot.

• Harrison Hills Park, Natrona Heights, Harrison: 8 a.m. to dusk through Jan. 19 in the parking lot at the intersection of Chipmunk and Cottontail drives.

• Hartwood Acres Park, Indiana Township: 8 a.m. to dusk through Jan. 19 in the Middle Road parking lot.

• Indiana Township will offer free pickup for township residents during the week of Jan. 6. Monday pickup is not guaranteed. Residents should have trees at the curb by 7 a.m. Jan. 6. Trucks will drive around the township all week and pick up trees. Waste Management will collect trees on regular pickup days in January. Trees will not count as a bulk pickup item.

Decorations, lights and bags should be removed from trees before recycling.

Apollo/East Vandergrift

Jan. 8: St. James and Our Lady, Queen of Peace parishes will sponsor a bus trip to Rivers Casino, Pittsburgh. The bus will leave at 9 a.m. from the St. James Church parking lot and stay at the casino for five hours. Cost: $30, includes $20 free play. State-issued photo ID required to receive free play. Reservations: 724-478-4958.

Brackenridge

Wednesday: The American Legion will host a New Years Day super bingo at 5 p.m. at the post, 845 First Ave. Doors open at 3 p.m. Cost: $45 for the base package; extra packages, $30. There will be no magic number or all-nighter games. Regular games pay $110, specials pay $250 and the jackpot game will pay $2,250. Public welcome.

Harrison  

Tuesday : The Veterans of Foreign Wars will host a New Years Eve celebration from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Music will be by the Cool Change Band. Public welcome. Cost: $25, includes two drinks and food. Cash bar. Tickets: 724-904-7649.

Leechburg

Tuesday : Leechburg Area Community Association will sponsor a New Year’s Eve party from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Marconi Club Mirror Room, 135 River Ave. Cost: $20, includes champagne toast at midnight and food. There will be a cash bar, prize drawing, basket raffle and DJ. BYO snacks. Designated drivers receive free soft drinks, water and iced tea. Tarentum 

Tuesday : Tarentum Elks will host a New Year’s Eve party at the lodge, 219 E. Sixth Ave. Doors open at 7 p.m. The Americana Band will be featured and there will be a food buffet, open bar and champagne toast at midnight. Advance tickets required; no tickets will be sold at the door. Cost: $30. Public welcome. Tickets: stop in at the lodge and see the bar technician.
