Trivia night to test knowledge of the outdoors

The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek will sponsor a nature trivia night at 7 p.m. March 5 at the center, 142 Kerr Road, Bethel Township.

The game will be multiple choice and played using your smartphone or tablet and prizes will be awarded. The event is suited for players who are at least 16. BYO snacks and drinks.

Lower Burrell Citizen Police Academy accepting applications

The Lower Burrell Citizen Police Academy will begin March 6 at the city municipal building. Classes will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays for 10 weeks with the exception of April 17.

The program is designed to promote partnerships through education. Participants will be provided with a wide range of information intended to help better understand the goals and objectives, rules, responsibilities and legal parameters under which the police department functions. Applicants must be 18 years or older and residents of Lower Burrell. Class size is limited to 25.

Food distribution set Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway

Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will host a drive-through food distribution for anyone in need from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway, 313 N. Pike Road.

No reservations are required. Guests should remain in their vehicles and open their door or trunk and will be served on a first come, first served basis.

March 23: A purse bash bingo will begin at 1 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 894 Veterans Drive. Doors open at 11 a.m. and lunch will be at noon. Cost: $35, includes lunch. Sponsored by the post auxiliary, there will be a silent auction, additional packets, pick of the table, pull tabs and a cash bar. Reserved seating available for parties of 6 or more. Kiski Township

Tuesday: The diaper pantry at Spring Church Lutheran Church, 3623 Lutheran Church Road, will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church. Recipients must register in advance. First-time recipients must provide their own ID, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card. Registration: 724-478-1528.

May 3: Boy Scout Troop 589 is accepting applications for a yard sale planned at Spring Church Sportsman’s Club, 1956 Route 56. Individuals, families and vendors welcome. Cost: yard sale spaces, indoors, $15, outside; $10; vendors and crafters, $25. Spaces are 8-feet wide. Bring your own table and chairs. New Kensington 

April 19 to Oct. 25: The Downtown New Kensington Farmers Market is accepting vendor applications for this year’s market season that will run from mid-April through mid October on Fifth Avenue.
