Apollo police officer to be remembered

A celebration of life to mark the 45th anniversary of the death of Apollo police officer Leonard C. Miller will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church, 214 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Apollo.

Miller was killed Jan. 3, 1980 in the line of duty. The public is welcome.


Free transportation available to Greensburg MLK Day event

The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg will host a free Martin Luther King Jr. Day open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at the museum, 221 N. Main St.

There will be a lighting of the unity candle featuring participants from the Willie Thrower Award Foundation, the Digital Foundry and the Allegheny Valley Association of Churches; food vendors, musicians and a variety of art activities. Free round-trip shuttle transportation from New Kensington will leave at 9:30 a.m. and return at 3:30 p.m. Spaces are limited and shuttle reservations are required. North Apollo 

Saturday: North Apollo Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a winter craft and vendor fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the firehall, 311 16th St. The kitchen will be open with a new breakfast and lunch menu and there will be a basket raffle and 50-50. Parks Township

Saturday: First Baptist Church will host a pastor connection prayer and worship service at 3 p.m. at the church, 410 E. Third Ave. The service will allow church leaders to praise, worship and pray without having the lead, organize or present. All pastors, preachers and lay leaders are welcome.

Sunday and Tuesday: Alcoholics Anonymous will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St. An opportunity for silent prayer will be at 6:30 p.m.

Washington Township 

Today: Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 4078 Route 66. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and sales start at 6 p.m. Free coffee. The kitchen will be open. Players must be at least 18 or accompanied by an adult.
