Westmoreland Museum of American Art to celebrate MLK Day

The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg will host a free Martin Luther King Jr. Day open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 20 at the museum, 221 N. Main St.

There will be a lighting of the unity candle featuring participants from the Willie Thrower Award Foundation, the Digital Foundry and the Allegheny Valley Association of Churches; food vendors, musicians and a variety of art activities. Free round-trip shuttle transportation from New Kensington will leave at 9:30 a.m. and return at 3:30 p.m. Spaces are limited and shuttle reservations are required. Jan. 19: Vendor spaces are available for an antique and classic bicycle swap meet set for 8 a.m. to noon at the Tesla BioHealing Wellness Hotel and Resort, formerly the Days Inn, 139 Pittsburgh Road. Harrison

Friday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50-50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Saturday: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

Jan. 19: Allegheny County Park rangers will host a guided hike “Owl Prowl” from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harrison Hills Park, Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Meet at the Environmental Learning Center. The hike will be approximately two miles with moderate elevation changes. Bring water and wear closed toe shoes. Flashlights will be provided. Cost: $5. Reservations required. Jefferson Township

Today: Bingo will be at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion, 754 N. Pike Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. The kitchen will be open. Proceeds benefit post and auxiliary projects.

Leechburg

Cost: clothing, shoes and purses, 25 cents each or five for $1; semi/formal dresses, leather coats, designer shoes and purses, $5. The jewelry room will be open. Please bring your own bags.

Tuesday: Redemption Church, 232 Hillcrest Dr., will offer a GriefShare support group from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays Jan. 14 through April 8 at the church. No reservations required.

Parks Township 

Friday: Parks Township Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7 p.m. in the firehall, 1119 Dalmation Drive. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Saxonburg

Today: The dementia caregiver support group at South Butler Community Library will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. at the library, 240 W. Main St. The group meets the second Thursday of each month and provides a safe place for caregivers to share their feelings and discuss their day-to-day challenges. No reservations required. Saturday: South Butler Community Library will sponsor a free, hands-on program about gathering tree nectar and making maple syrup and home at 1 p.m. at the library, 240 W. Saturday: A New Year’s pancake breakfast will be from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Masons, 307 Lock St., second floor. Cost: $10; children 6 to 12, $5. Dine in or takeout. The 50-50 drawing to benefit the lodge scholarship program will be conducted. Public welcome.
