Springdale Community Day scheduled Saturday

The Springdale Community Day festival will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on the 800 block of Lincoln Avenue in the borough.

Sponsored by Springdale Team of Active Residents (STAR), there will be a car show, food trucks, vendors, the UPMC Screening Truck, activities for children and more.

Non-perishable food items will be collected for the Lower Valley Food Bank. For more information, call 724-274-6269.


Vandergrift veterans memorial to receive update

The Casino Theater and several veterans’ organizations in Vandergrift plan to update and renew the plaques at the memorial on Washington Avenue.

To have a plaque added to the display, at least one of these are required: residents must have been born in the 15690 or 15629 zip codes, enlisted from Vandergrift or East Vandergrift or lived in either of these two boroughs. All honorees must have served in the armed forces in wartime or during peacetime at any time and have been honorably discharged. Today: There will be no concert at the Syria Shrine Center in observance of Independence Day.

Harrison

Friday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50-50 raffle and final jackpot game.

Lower Burrell 

Saturday: The Joseph “Bud” Myers Farmers Market will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Bon Air School parking lot, 3260 Leechburg Road.

July 13: The trash to treasures sale planned at The Rivers 15068 is canceled. Details: 724-337-4837 or sharen@goriverchurch.com.

Oakmont 

Through August 31: Kerr Memorial Museum, 402 Delaware Ave., Oakmont, is featuring an exhibit of elegant fashions of the late 1800s to the Roaring ‘20s at the museum. Items on display were donated to the museum by the W. H. Brown Family of Pittsburgh. Hours are by appointment. Tours and information: 412-826-9295 to schedule a tour.

Parks Township

Friday: Parks Township Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7 p.m. in the firehall, 1119 Dalmation Drive. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Tarentum

Saturday: The Clothing Closet at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The church is conducting a clothing drive. Clean clothes, belts, shoes and purses in any condition will be accepted during the Clothing Closet on Saturdays through July 11. Alternate drop-off and pickup times: 724-882-2185.

Washington Township 

Friday: Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 4078 Route 66. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and sales start at 6 p.m. Free coffee. The kitchen will be open. Players must be at least 18 or accompanied by an adult.
