Guardian Angels Parish festival begins Wednesday

The Guardian Angels Parish Summer Festival will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 5 to 10 p.m. July 13 at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church grounds, 800 Montana Ave., Harrison.

There will be rides, food, a basket raffle, a cash raffle, bingo and music. The entertainment schedule is Monday, Moments to Remember with DJ Clem; Tuesday, Tim Findley; Wednesday, American Pie; and July 13, the Dick Tady Orchestra.

Kennywood Slovak Day celebration planned July 18

The Western Pennsylvania Slovak Day Committee will present the 101st annual American Slovak Day on July 18 at Kennywood Park, West Mifflin.

The Slovak kitchen will open at 12:30 p.m. in Pavilion No. 4. Cash only will be accepted. On the Main Pavilion Stage, No. 5, there will be Slovak cultural displays and vendors, and Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. by priests and deacons from the Pittsburgh and Greensburg dioceses. After Mass, there will be a sing-along and the Pittsburgh Slovakians will perform.

Tickets for Slovak Day only are $33 for those over 4, and Flex Date tickets are $40; For tickets, call Walt at 724-265-1469.


MyHeritage research database available at Harrison library

The local history department at Community Library of Allegheny Valley, 1522 Broadview Blvd., Harrison, offers the use of the MyHeritage Research Database that includes billions of historical documents for nearly 50 countries, historical photographs, public records, indexes and more.

Annual Book sale planned by Peoples Library

Peoples Library will have its annual book sale Thursday through July 15 at the Lower Burrell and New Kensington locations.

The Lower Burrell library, 3052 Wachter Ave., will have nonfiction selections including sports, religion, cooking, gardening and biography and books for kids and teens.

The New Kensington location, 880 Barnes St., will have hardcover and trade fiction, paperbacks, romance novels, history and war nonfiction, puzzles, games, music, DVDs and books for kids and teens.

Hours and prices are: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, $1.75 per pound; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, $1.50 per pound; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, $1.25 per pound; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 17, $3 per bag.

Sunday: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish will celebrate Mass at 11 a.m. on the lawn in front of the grotto at the church, 411 McKinley Ave. Bring a folding chair or blanket. Tarentum

Thursday: An opening reception for “Mending the Void,” an exhibit by Greensburg artist Darryl Audia Jr., will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Manos Gallery, 320 E. Fifth Ave., in conjunction with the borough’s Night Market. Audia’s paintings will be on display through Aug. 3.
