Cleanup day planned Saturday in Arnold

Volunteers are needed for a community cleanup planned from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in Arnold.

Workers will meet at 10 a.m. in Roosevelt Park, 705 Drey St. Sponsored by Pennsylvania United, gloves, trash bags and snacks will be provided.

Weekly Tarentum Farmers Market to begin season

The Tarentum Farmers Market will open for the season from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot across from First United Presbyterian Church on Lock Street.

Markets will continue Wednesdays through Oct. 16.


Help needed at Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley

Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley is looking for volunteers to help out at the shelter in New Kensington.

There are opportunities available every day to suit every person including dog and cat care, event and fundraising work, cleaning, maintenance, doggy day outs, fostering, office work and administration.

Arnold 

June 23: New Kensington Eagles Auxiliary will host a super bingo at 2 p.m. at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church social hall, 1601 Kenneth Ave. Doors open at noon. There will be 14 regular games that pay $100; five specials, and a must-go $1,000 jackpot game; silent auction, small games of chance and a 50-50. Snacks, pop and water will be sold. No alcohol permitted. Cost: $40 in advance, includes lunch and bingo package. No seats can be saved. Proceeds will benefit club charities. Brackenridge

Wednesday: Al-Anon will meet at 8 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 847 10th Ave. The group offers help and hope for families and friends of alcoholics.

Freeport

Wednesdays: The Thrift Store Clothing Ministry at Freeport United Methodist Church, 211 Fourth St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All items are free, but donations will be accepted. Items available include clothing of all sizes, bedding and window items. Donations of clothing, shoes and boots welcome; must be laundered and free from smoke and pet hair. Wheelchair accessible. Harrison

Tuesday: Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host a Memory Makers memory board sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria, 1301 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights. Boards measure 8 x 12 inches and are created from a picture on your phone or a regular photo. Cost: $15. Cash, checks and credit cards accepted. Proceeds will benefit auxiliary projects for the hospital.

Wednesday: The Becky’s Closet community clothing store at Faith Lutheran Church, 1500 Broadview Blvd., will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Clothing for all members of the family available at very low cost. Donations welcome during these hours. Everyone welcome.

Wednesday: The Agape Thrift Shop at Grace United Methodist Church, 1333 Freeport Road, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Clean clothing in all sizes is needed. No housewares or bedding please due to lack of space. Bring donations on Wednesday or leave them on the front porch. Do not place donations in the blue bins behind the church.

Wednesday: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Food bank participants can receive food allotments twice per month. Those who are not yet registered should come from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Jefferson

Tuesday: Concordia at Cabot sponsors a free monthly caregiver support group at 2 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the Lund Care Center private dining room, 134 Marwood Road. Use Entrance 4. Kiski Township

Tuesday: The diaper pantry at Spring Church Lutheran Church, 3623 Lutheran Church Road, will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church. Distributions will be the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Recipients must register in advance. First-time recipients must provide their own ID, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card. Registration: 724-478-1528.

Lower Burrell  

Tuesday: Peoples Library will have a summer story time at 1 p.m. at the library, 3052 Wachter Ave. Details: 724-339-1021.

Wednesday: Peoples Library will present “Shipwrecked” with Mad Science at 1 p.m. at the library, 3052 Wachter Ave. Those attending will imagine they are on a deserted island and work together to invent a means for collecting food and water, build shelters and bridges and design a boat to escape the island. Saturday: The River 15068 is accepting space reservations for a trash to treasures sale set for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the church parking lot, 273 Chester Drive. Crafters, vendors and thrifters welcome. Wednesday: Highlands Family Center, 415 E. Fourth Ave., will host a free farmers market from 1 to 5 p.m. at the center, while supplies last. No income guidelines required. Items available will include vegetables, fruit, milk, cheese, bread and more.
