Back the Blue fundraiser to include music, car show

The fifth annual Back the Blue event will be Saturday at Mogie’s Irish Pub, 3210 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell.

Admission is $10. Head Turners Pittsburgh chapter will sponsor Ride for Mogie’s Mission at noon. A car show will be afterward in the parking lot of Wildlife Lanes on Wildlife Lodge Road. Mogie’s Mission charity benefits local youth groups and organizations.

Bagpipe music will be from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Musicians scheduled to perform include the Lenny Collini Family Pak, Shovel, the Beat Daddies, Aftershock, Magic & the Hot Metal Brass Band, TKO – the Knock Offs, Big House Pete and Norm Nardini.

A fireworks display at 9:45 p.m. will end the event. Proceeds will be donated to local police departments and the Tunnels to Towers organization.


Free community picnic planned Saturday

Fun and Freedom will host a free community Picnic in the Park from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday in Natrona Park and Playground, River Avenue, Harrison.

All members of the community are welcome to enjoy food, bubble fun, sports and games. For details, call 724-274-7773.


Armstrong Relay for Life set Saturday in Ford City

The Armstrong County Relay for Life will be from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday at Ford City Memorial Park.

Teams will walk all day and there will be a DJ, food, raffles, a luminaria ceremony and survivor celebration. Admission is free.

Friday : The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek will host a free program about pollinators from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center, 142 Kerr Road. There will be tours of the Master Gardener Pollinator Garden, talks with beekeepers, arts and crafts and children’s activities. All ages welcome. Reservations required. Brackenridge

Today: Bingo will begin at 7:15 p.m. at the American Legion, 845 First Ave. Details: 724-994-6030.

Today: The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center will distribute free grab-and-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the center parking lot, 917 Brackenridge Ave. Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone welcome.

East Vandergrift

July 4: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish is selling tickets for a cash lottery raffle. Winning numbers will be the 1:30 and 7 p.m. Pa. Lottery Daily Pick-3 numbers. Winners will each receive $1,000 and a $100 gift certificate to Naser Foods. Cost: $10, includes two three-digit numbers. Friday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50-50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Jefferson Township 

Today: Bingo will be at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion, 754 N. Pike Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. The kitchen will be open. Proceeds benefit post and auxiliary projects.

Leechburg  

July 11: A rubber ducky race fundraiser to benefit the borough’s 175th anniversary celebration next year will be at 5 p.m. on the Kiski River. Ducks will be dropped into the river from the walking bridge to Hyde Park and will be fished out at the finish line at the firemen’s boat launch. Prizes will be awarded. Cost: $5 per duck. Ducks are available at Leechburg Public Library, 139 Market St. Checks payable to Leechburg Area Community Association will be accepted.

Lower Burrell  

Today: Peoples Library will offer a free online talk with author Tiffany Jewell who will discuss the inequities Black and Brown students face from preschool through college. Through June 30: The works of members of the Allegheny Valley League of Artists will be on exhibit during operating hours at Peoples Library, 3052 Wachter Ave. Artists include Don and Debra Pendergast, Chris Reifenstein and Patti Giordano.

New Kensington

Springdale

June 26: The Let’s Get Crafting program at Springdale Free Public Library will host a workshop to make a patriotic wreath at 1 p.m. at the library, 331 School St. Reservations required. Reservations: 724-274-9729.

Tarentum

Saturday: The Clothing Closet at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The church is conducting a clothing drive through June 29. Washington Township 

Friday: Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 4078 Route 66. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and sales start at 6 p.m. Free coffee. The kitchen will be open. Players must be at least 18 or accompanied by an adult.

Saturday: Poke Run Presbyterian Church will sponsor a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to noon at the church, 1091 Poke Run Church Road. A bag sale will be from 11 a.m. to noon. Breakfast and lunch will be available.

Winfield

Today: The Matrona Family Resource Center at Cabot Church, 707 Winfield Road, will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. New and gently used clothing in sizes preemie through 10/12 will be available, as well as strollers, car seats, toys and more.
