Lightning bugs to be discussed at free children’s program

The Knee High To Nature Series for children at the Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek will offer a free program about lightening bugs at 7 p.m. June 8 at the center, 142 Kerr Road, Bethel Township.

Free course offered for adults with mental illness

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Butler County will offer a free educational course for adults with mental health conditions who are looking to better understand themselves and their recovery.

The series of classes, “Peer to Peer,” will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays June 13 to Aug. 1 at the office, 220 S. Main St., Butler. The program will include activities, discussions and videos.

Oct. 22: New Kensington Moose is accepting table reservations for a fall craft and vendor show planned for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the lodge, 499 Reimer St. Spaces limited to one representative from each company on a first come, first served basis. New Kensington

Wednesday: TCC and Verizon Wireless, 100 Tarentum Bridge Road, is collecting a pet supply drive through May 31 for items to deliver to their local animal rescues. Items being accepted include gently used towels and blankets, cat and dog toys, treats, collars, leashes and pet beds.

June 4: An all-specials bingo will be at 1 p.m. at the Eagles, 2134 Freeport Road. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Cost: $40 in advance, includes lunch and package. There will be 20 special games, a guaranteed $500 jackpot game, cash bar, silent auction, small games of chance and a 50/50 raffle. No outside food or beverages permitted. Vandergrift  

Wednesday : Vandergrift Public Library is selling tickets for a basket raffle. The drawing for the seven-basket raffle will be at 1 p.m. May 31.
