Poker run to raise money for homeless veterans
Ride for Homeless Vets Motorcycle Poker Run will be June 9 at Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars, 894 Veterans Lane, Harrison.
The run will begin and finish at the post. Race-day check-in will be from 9 a.m. until the opening ceremonies begin at 11 a.m. Kickstands up will be at 11:20 a.m. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served and the Shiners will entertain at 4 p.m. There will be a silent auction, refreshments and a 50-50.

Opportunities available to help senior citizens
Open Your Heart to a Senior is looking for volunteers to help our older neighbors.
People are needed to drive to doctor appointments, shop for groceries and make calls to check on and say hello to people who are alone. To offer your time and for information, call 724-205-6282 or email oyhs@wfspa.org.

Thursday: The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center will distribute free grab-and-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the center parking lot, 917 Brackenridge Ave. Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Today: Sarver Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) will meet from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Christ Community Fellowship Church, 160 Singleton Road. The group is a non-denominational faith-based organization where mothers from pregnancy through those with 12th grade children can find community and connection. Childcare and brunch are provided. June 7: The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania will sponsor a free community walk Freeport Community Park. The event will begin at 9 a.m. and will last one hour, rain or shine. Meet in the parking lot of Laube Hall. A naturalist will lead the group and will discuss birds, beneficial insects, native plants and wildlife. Binoculars will be available. Reservations required. Today: Becky’s Closet community clothing store at Faith Lutheran Church, 1500 Broadview Blvd., will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Very low-cost clothing available for men, women and children. Donations welcome during these hours. Everyone welcome.
Today: The Agape Thrift Shop at Grace United Methodist Church, 1333 Freeport Road, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Clean clothing in all sizes is needed. No housewares or bedding please due to lack of space. Bring donations on Wednesday or leave them on the front porch. Do not place donations in the blue bins behind the church.
Today: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Food bank participants can receive food allotments twice per month. Those who have not yet registered should come from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
